Heatsetting

From time to time, we find it necessary to clear up misunderstandings as well as to share knowledge. We recognize that information works best on a “two way street” so we welcome your input on any subject, at any time. We will address the important features of our machinery and other points of interest about carpet yarn heatsetting in a series of brief newsletters which are single topic statements. Recently, another carpet yarn heatsetting machinery manufacturer said, “The other heat-setting system (Presumably Power-Heat-Set’s GVA 5009 eco machine) is processing at very high temperature destroys the spinning oils, hence before tufting or weaving the necessity of re-oiling the yarns”.

We are surprised that our competitor would make a statement like this considering that we don’t have any customers re-oiling yarns from our GVA 5009 eco machines.

There certainly was a period when yarn sellers performed “wet winding” but, long ago, it was determined that this wet winding had no effect on processability in tufting or weaving and was only a method of adding something to the yarn which added weight and cost less than the yarn’s cost by weight. This practice had nothing to do with the heatset temperature or even the heatset method, superheated (overheated) steam or saturated steam.

Power-Heat-Set’s GVA 5009 eco offers many advantages in carpet quality and desirable carpet characteristics as well as process flexibility. We recommend that you consider the relative benefits of the 2 major methods of heatsetting with the facts clearly in mind instead of being misinformed by unsubstantiated statements.
